Ten Thousand Hours

Macklemore also known as Ben Haggerty, or Professor Macklemore, is best known for his single "Thrift Shop", but there is a deeper side to him that most don't realize.  Haggerty is someone who isn't afraid to speak the truth.  To speak his mind and tell it like it is.  He is a voice for gay rights, drug abuse and politics.  Haggerty raps about heavy topics that we all deal with in life.  After listening to his song "Ten Thousand Hours" I gained a new respect for Macklemore.  His lyrics are poetic and honest.  "Ten Thousand Hours" tells the story of fighting for what you love in life and never giving up on your dreams.  It carries a message of not only strength and perseverance but experiencing life to the fullest.  Macklemore talks about Basquiat, Keith Herring and Esther.  Topics you wouldn't associate with today's rappers.  His recent album, which he collaborated with producer Ryan Lewis, "The Heist" is a must buy if you haven't already downloaded it.

Remember to stand up for what you believe in and never give up on pursuing your dreams and what you love.

I will not be a statistic...
Just let me be...
No child left behind, that’s the American scheme...
I make my living off of words...
And do what I love for work...
And got around 980 on my SATs...
Take that system, what did you expect?
Generation of kids choosing love over a desk...
Put those hours in and look at what you get...
Nothing that you can hold, but everything that it is...
Ten thousand
— Macklemore

"Ten Thousand Hours"

Uh
I hope that God decides to talk through him
That the people decide to walk with him
Regardless of pitchfork cosigns I've jumped
Make sure the soundman doesn't cockblock the drums
Let the snare knock the air right out of your lungs
And those words be the oxygen
Just breathe
Amen, regardless I'mma say it
Felt like I got signed the day that I got an agent
Got an iTunes check, shit man I'm paying rent
About damn time that I got out of my basement
About damn time I got around the country and I hit these stages
I was made to slay them
Ten thousand hours I'm so damn close I can taste it
On some Malcolm Gladwell, David Bowie meets Kanye shit
This is dedication
A life lived for art is never a life wasted
Ten thousand

Ten thousand hours felt like ten thousand ants
Ten thousands ants, they carry me
Ten thousand hours felt like ten thousand ants
Ten thousands ants, they carry me

Now, now, now
This is my world, this is my arena
The TV told me something different I didn't believe it
I stand here in front of you today all because of an idea
I could be who I wanted if I could see my potential
And I know that one day I'mma be him
Put the gloves on, sparring with my ego
Everyone's greatest obstacle, I beat 'em
Celebrate that achievement
Got some attachments, some baggage I'm actually working on leaving
See, I observed Escher
I love Basquiat
I watched Keith Haring
You see I study art
The greats weren't great because at birth they could paint
The greats were great cause they paint a lot
I will not be a statistic
Just let me be
No child left behind, that's the American scheme
I make my living off of words
And do what I love for work
And got around 980 on my SATs
Take that system, what did you expect?
Generation of kids choosing love over a desk
Put those hours in and look at what you get
Nothing that you can hold, but everything that it is
Ten thousand

Ten thousand hours felt like ten thousand ants
Ten thousands ants, they carry me
Ten thousand hours felt like ten thousand ants
Ten thousands ants, they carry me

Same shit, different day, same struggle
Slow motion as time slips through my knuckles
Nothing beautiful about it, no light at the tunnel
For the people that put the passion before them being comfortable
Raw, unmedicated heart no substitute
Banging on table tops, no substitute
I'm feeling better than ever man, what is up with you?
Scraping my knuckles, I'm battling with some drug abuse
I lost another friend, got another call from a sister
And I speak for the people that share that struggle too
Like they got something bruised
My only rehabilitation was the sweat, tears and blood when up in the booth...

It's the part of the show
Where it all fades away
When the lights go to black
And the band leaves the stage
And you wanted an encore
But there's no encore today
Cause the moment is now
Can't get it back from the grave

Part of the show
It all fades away
Lights go to black
Band leaves the stage
You wanted an encore
But there's no encore today
Cause the moment is now
Can't get it back from the grave

Welcome to the heist
Welcome to the heist...

Medicine for the People

This dynamic group known as "Medicine for the People" is the definition of Real Talk music. The group consists of so many talented artist like Nahko Bear, Hope Medford, Max Ribner, Don Corey, Jeanna McAnally, Aliina Champion & Tim Ribner.  Based out of Portland, Oregon as well as Hilo, Hawaii, they sing of their travels and try to bring people together with their music.  The song "New Eyes" really hit home for me while I was on my journey of self discovery through Hawaii.  We each have our own battles in our lives but life is really very simple.  This song helped me to reconnect to myself as well as the world around me.  Music speaks from the soul and to the soul.

In the moon of the buddin’ trees I was gifted new eyes to see... All the shiftin’ shapin’ ways you can be, wake the dreams into reality...

Skinny Love

From the band Bon Iver comes the song Skinny Love.  Released in 2007 on the album titled For Emma, Forever Ago, the song was the first single to debut from Bon Iver.  It was also featured in Grey's Anatomy as well as the television series Chuck.  The band members include front man Justin Vernon as well as Michael Noyce, Sean Carey and Matthew McCaughan.  The name of the American indie folk band came from Justin's time spent at his father's cabin in Wisconsin during the winter.  The name Bon Iver comes from the French word bon hiver meaning "good winter."  With 2 Grammy Awards already I'm sure there is much more to come from this young band.  You can check out more of Bon Iver's music at the links below.

"Skinny Love"

Come on skinny love just last the year
Pour a little salt, we were never here
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Staring at the sink of blood and crushed veneer

Tell my love to wreck it all
Cut out all the ropes and let me fall
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Right in this moment this order's tall

And I told you to be patient
And I told you to be fine
And I told you to be balanced
And I told you to be kind

In the morning I'll be with you
But it will be a different kind
I'll be holding all the tickets
And you'll be owning all the fines

Come on skinny love, what happened here?
We suckled on the hope in lite brassieres
My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my
Sullen load is full, so slow on the split

And I told you to be patient
And I told you to be fine
And I told you to be balanced
And I told you to be kind

And now all your love is wasted
And then who the hell was I?
And I'm breaking at the britches
And at the end of all your lines

Who will love you?
Who will fight?
Who will fall far behind?
Ooh, ooh

Greyhound

Swedish House Mafia is an electronic dance music trio of DJs from Sweden that have had much success here in the U.S.  They are most known for their hit "One" featuring singer and songwriter Pharrell Williams.  My favorite video of theirs is for their song "Greyhound" which is featured in a commercial for ABSOLUT vodka that showcases greyhound dogs.  Here is the full video:

Sweet Nothing

Calvin Harris is a Scottish DJ, singer, songwriter and record producer.  He was born in Dumfries, Scotland as Adam Richard Wells.  His newest release is from the album titled 18 Months which features the song Sweet Nothing and features Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine.  Harris has had much success with his last two albums and caught the attention of Australian super star Kylie Minogue.  He later produced two of Kylie's songs on her album as well as songs for other artists like Rihanna and Ke$ha.  His music is gives you a great feeling of happiness and just makes you want to dance.

You took my heart and you held it in your mouth
And, with a word all my love came rushing out
And, every whisper, it's the worst, emptied out by a single word
There is a hollow in me now

So I put my faith in something unknown
I'm living on such sweet nothing
But I'm trying to hope with nothing to hold
I'm living on such sweet nothing
And it's hard to learn
And it's hard to love
When you're giving me such sweet nothing
Sweet nothing, sweet nothing
You're giving me such sweet nothing

[Beat break]

It isn't easy for me to let it go
Cause
I've swallow every single word
And
Every whisper, every sigh
Eats away at this heart of mine
And there is a hollow in me now

So I put my faith in something unknown
I'm living on such sweet nothing
But I'm trying to hope with nothing to hold
I'm living on such sweet nothing
And it's hard to learn
And it's hard to love
When you're giving me such sweet nothing
Sweet nothing, sweet nothing
You're giving me such sweet nothing

[Beat break]

And it's not enough
To tell me that you care
When, we both know the words are empty air
You give me nothing

Uoooh
Uoooh
Uoooh
Nothing

[Beat break]

Uoooh
Uoooh

Sweet Nothing

Yellow Ledbetter

With the release of their debut album, Ten, Pearl Jam broke into the music mainstream in the 90s.  The band formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990 making their mark in the alternative rock and grunge scene.  An all time favorite song of mine is from the album titled Jeremy called Yellow Ledbetter.  Although the band won four MTV Music Awards which included video of the year and best group video they would later refuse to make music videos for any future songs.  The lead singer Eddie Vedder stated that the reason was because he felt that the videos took away the listeners own interpretation of the song.  With Vedder as the lead singer he is joined by guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready as well as bassist Jeff Ament and drummer Matt Cameron.   The band has been very vocal on many social and political topics and have had a standing opposition with Ticketmaster as they believe that Ticketmaster is a venue monopolization.  Pearl Jam has performed for many charity events and was named the 2011 Planet Defenders by Rock The Earth for their environmental activism due to their large-scale efforts to decrease their own carbon footprint.

"Yellow Ledbetter"

Unsealed on a porch a letter sat.
Then you said, "I wanna leave it again."
Once I saw her on a beach of weathered sand.
And on the sand I wanna leave it again. Yeah.
On a weekend I wanna wish it all away, yeah.
And they called and I said that "I want what I said" and then I call out again.
And the reason oughta' leave her calm, I know.
I said "I know what I was the boxer or the bag."

Ah yeah, can you see them out on the porch? Yeah, but they don't wave.
I see them round the front way. Yeah.
And I know, and I know I don't want to stay.
Make me cry...

I see... Oh I don't know why there's something else.
I wanna drum it all away...
Oh, I said, "I don't, I don't know whether I was the boxer or the bag."

Ah yeah, can you see them out on the porch? Yeah, but they don't wave.
But I see them round the front way. Yeah.
And I know, and I know. I don't wanna stay at all.
I don't wanna stay. Yeah.
I don't wanna stay. [x2]
I don't... Don't wanna, oh... Yeah. Ooh... Ohh...

Mr. Brightside

From the heart of Las Vegas, Nevada, The Killers are an American rock band that formed in 2001.  Headed by lead singer Brandon Flowers, Dave Keuning is the lead guitar, Mark Stoermer on the bass and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. rockin' out on the drums.  After four studio albums and many hit singles they are currently on tour hitting cities all over the world including their hometown also known as "Sin City."  An all time favorite hit song of mine is Mr. Brightside from the album Hot Fuss. It's one of those songs that just makes you want to move.  Along with being a successful rock band The Killers are also philanthropists.  They are proactive participants with the Product Red Campaign, which helps to raise awareness and funds to eliminate HIV/AIDS in Africa.  They may have started by playing in Las Vegas with a small but loyal following but they have really made a name for themselves as well as a very successful career in the music world.

I'm coming out of my cage
And I've been doing just fine
Gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep
And she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke
And she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head
But she's touching his chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, letting me go

I just can't look its killing me
And taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibis
But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
Cause I'm Mr Brightside

I'm coming out of my cage
And I've been doing just fine
Gotta gotta be down
Because I want it all
It started out with a kiss
How did it end up like this
It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Now I'm falling asleep
And she's calling a cab
While he's having a smoke
And she's taking a drag
Now they're going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it's all in my head
But she's touching his chest
Now, he takes off her dress
Now, letting me go

I just can't look its killing me
And taking control
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea
Swimming through sick lullabies
Choking on your alibi
But it's just the price I pay
Destiny is calling me
Open up my eager eyes
'Cause I'm Mr Brightside
I never
I never
I never
I never

Jennifer Keith Quintet

With old Hollywood glamor and a classic rat pack feel, Jennifer Keith delivers a mesmerizing performance with her vocals backed by a big band sound.  She currently has a standing residency at the new Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and can also be seen at many other venues around sin city.  She has been compared to the likes of Peggy Lee and Patsy Cline.  When I saw her sing for the first time I even heard a hint of Gwen Stefani in her voice.  Jennifer is a direct descendent of Hollywood's RKO pictures and is a well known pin up model.  Check out her gigs as well as her music at her website or on You Tube.

I've got an island in the Pacific
And every thing about it is terrific
I've got the sun to tan me, palms to fan me, and
An occasional man

I love my island, it's very lazy
If I should ever leave it I'd be crazy
I've got papayas, peaches, sandy beaches, and
An occasional man

When I go swimming
I am always dressed in style
'Cause I go swimming
Wearing just a great big smile

My little island is made for pleasure
And in the cool of evening it's a treasure
And when the day grows later, what is greater than
An occasional man

If you're on shore leave
And your face is kinda cute,
Perhaps by your leave
I could be your passion fruit

Free

Free off the album Colours is sung by the group Graffiti6.  It is a song that anyone could fall in love with.  Graffiti6, from London, formed in 2009 with a an infused sound of the electric piano and the guitar strummed off beat.  The group is a collaboration of two  singers/songwriters Jamie Scott and Tommy "D" Danvers.   This song just makes me smile every time I hear it!

"Free"

If I lay my head down on you
Would it be, would it be too late?
Cause I can’t blame you, baby it’s me that’s done wrong
Cause I broke the skies that shine above

But I can’t live, oh without you, love you
And it’s hard to breathe when you’re not near
And I can’t lie here beside you, beside you
Cause you steal my soul when you leave

Set me free baby, set me free
Set me free baby

I need someone to hold me
Wrap their arms and embrace the air I breathe
Cause you were my shelter
Now the heart you hold is somebody else’s baby

Now I can’t make you love me baby if you don’t
But I’ll stay in love, in love with you.
Oh yes I do.

But I can’t live, oh without you, without you
And it’s hard to breathe when you’re not near
Oh yes it is!
But I can’t lie here beside you, beside you
Cause you steal my soul when you leave

Set me free baby, oh set me free
Set me free baby, love, set me free

Don’t you know I can’t, no I can’t live without you, without you
And it’s hard to breathe when you’re not near
Oh yes it is!
But I can’t lie, oh beside you, beside you
Cause you steal my soul when you leave

Set me free baby, set me free baby
Set me free baby

Just set me free baby...

I Will Wait for You

The folk band, from England, Mumford and Sons have made a name for themselves in the UK and the States as well as the rest of Europe.  In a genre not all too popular, they have brought back the art of folk music.  With their break out hit Little Lion Man, from the album Sigh No More, they gained popularity here in the States. The band originally formed in 2007 from the scene known as "West London folk."  The band consists of members Marcus Mumford, Ben Lovett, "Counrty" Winston Marshall and Ted Dwane.  Mumford and Sons recently released another album in September 2012 titled Babel which is currently nominated for four Grammy Awards.  I Will Wait for You,  off the new album, is a fan favorite and as with all of their music the lyrics are deep and meaningful.  This song can be translated as either a love song or a prayer depending on personal perspective.  Take a listen and let it move you!

"I Will Wait"

Well I came home
Like a stone
And I fell heavy into your arms
These days of dust
Which we've known
Will blow away with this new sun

But I'll kneel down wait for now
And I'll kneel down
Know my ground

And I will wait I will wait for you
And I will wait I will wait for you

So break my step
And relent
Well you forgave and I won't forget
Know what we've seen
And him with less
Now in some way shake the excess

'Cause I will wait I will wait for you
And I will wait I will wait for you
And I will wait I will wait for you
And I will wait I will wait for you

Now I'll be bold
As well as strong
And use my head alongside my heart
So tame my flesh
And fix my eyes
A tethered mind freed from the lies

And I'll kneel down
Wait for now
I'll kneel down
Know my ground

Raise my hands
Paint my spirit gold
And bow my head
Keep my heart slow

'Cause I will wait I will wait for you
And I will wait I will wait for you
And I will wait I will wait for you
And I will wait I will wait for you

Crystalised

Love, love, love this song!!  Crystalised, by The Xx, is one of those songs that just makes me feel good when I hear it.  The Xx started in London with members Oliver, Romy and Jamie and have been touring all over the world since being discovered in 2005.  You better catch their American tour fast as they will head back to Europe in May 2013.  It's hard to choose just one song to post so do expect to see more videos on Giant Strides from The Xx.  In the meantime take a listen and check out their You Tube channel for more amazing music.

"Crystalised"

You've applied the pressure
To have me crystalised
And you've got the faith
That I could bring paradise

I'll forgive and forget
Before I'm paralyzed
Do I have to keep up the pace
To keep you satisfied

Things have gotten closer to the sun
And I've done things in small doses
So don't think that I'm pushing you away
When you're the one that I've kept closest

Ahh, ahh, ahh
Ahh, ahh, ahh
Ahh, ahh, ahh
Ahh, ahh, ahh

You don't move slow
Taking steps in my directions
The sound resounds, echo
Does it lessen your affection
No

You say I'm foolish
For pushing this aside
But burn down our home
I won't leave alive

Glaciers have melted to the sea
I wish the tide would take me over
I've been down on my knees
And you just keep on getting closer

Ahh, ahh, ahh
Ahh, ahh, ahh
Ahh, ahh, ahh
Ahh, ahh, ahh

Placid as I melt into the sea
(Things have gotten closer to the sun)
I wish the tide would take me over
(And I've done things in small doses)
I've been down onto my knees
(So don't think that I'm pushing you away)
And you just keep on getting closer
(When you're the one that I've kept closest)

Go slow
Go slow
Go slow
Go slow
Go slow

Bang Bang

The Monophonics use their Black Rock sound in the remake of the song Bang Bang.  Originating in San Francisco, California the band came together in 2005 to explore and develop their Psychedelic Rock sound and have made their mark as the leading band in the genre.  The original version of Bang Bang, sang by Nancy Sinatra, was featured in the movie Kill Bill Vol. 1.  The band released their newest album "In Your Brain" earlier this year and have been busy touring the U.S.

I was five and he was six
We rode on horses made of sticks
He wore black and I wore white
He would always win the fight

Bang bang, she shot you down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down.

Seasons came and changed the time
When I grew up, I called him mine
He would always laugh and say
Remember when we used to play?

Bang bang, she shot you down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down.

Oh my baby
She shot me down

Now she's gone, I don't know why
I didn't even say goodbye
Oh sometimes I see him crying
didn't have the time to lie.

Bang bang, she shot you down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down

Oh She shot me down
Bang Bang
Oh I hit the ground
Bang Bang
Bang Bang

Sweet Disposition

The Temper Trap is an indie rock, post-punk revival band from Australia that formed in 2005.  With their debut album release in 2009 titled Conditions they earned popularity with their single Sweet Disposition.  The Temper Trap has had much success with the hit as the song has been featured not only in commercials for Chrsyler and Diet Coke but in various other commercials around the globe in parts like Indonesia and New Zealand.  They recently released a self titled album in June 2012 which has had much popularity abroad.   The Temper Trap is a unique and talented group full of personality and potential.

"Sweet Disposition"

Sweet disposition
Never too soon
Oh, reckless abandon
Like no one's watching you
A moment of love, A dream, A laugh
A kiss, A cry
Our rights, Our wrongs
A moment of love, A dream, A laugh
A moment of love, A dream, A laugh

So stay there
'Cause I'll be coming over
While our blood's still young
It's so young, it runs
We won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop to surrender

Songs of desperation
I played them for you
A moment of love, A dream, A laugh
A kiss, A cry
Our rights, Our wrongs
A moment of love, A dream, A laugh
A moment of love, A dream, A laugh

Stay there
'Cause I'll be coming over
While our blood's still young
It's so young, it runs
We won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop to surrender

Won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop 'til it's over
Won't stop to surrender

Y Control

From New York City, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs formed their indie rock group in 2000.  Their first studio album was released in 2003 titled Fever To Tell featuring the song Y Control.  The name of the song refers to the emotional control of the female, the Y referring to the male chromosome.  The music video for Y Control  was directed by Spike Jonze and was very controversial when it was released as it shows children carrying around a dead dog and has an underlying message of child mutilation.  Their post-punk revival style mixed with garage punk and dance-punk is a great combination of racket.

Oh so all my lovin' goes
under the fog, fog, fog
and I believed them all
well I'm just a poor little baby
'cause well I believed them all

Oh so while you're growing old
under the gun, gun, gun
and I believed them all
well I'm just one poor baby
'cause well I believed them all

[Pre-chorus]
I wish I could buy back
the woman you stole

[Chorus]
Y-control, Y-control
you walk, walk, walk, walk, walk my winners
out of control, out of control
you walk, walk, walk, walk, walk my winners
out of control, high control
you walk, walk, walk, walk, walk my winners
out of control, out of control
you walk, walk, walk, walk, walk my winners out

So all my lovin' goes
under the fog, fog, fog
and I believed them all
well I'm just a poor little baby
'cause well I believed them all

[Repeat pre-chorus and chorus once]

Home

Phillip Phillips was the American Idol Season 11 winner.  A singer songwriter from Georgia.  The song Home was the single that he performed on the American Idol finale and the night he won American Idol Season 11.  Phillip made it through the competition while battling kidney problems and later undergoing surgery to remove multiple kidney stones that had caused him much pain during the show.  The song was later used during the 2012 Summer Olympics on NBC.  When I hear Home it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.  A joyous and simple song that makes everyone feel good.

Hold on, to me as we go
As we roll down this unfamiliar road
And although this wave is stringing us along
Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home

Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home

Settle down, it'll all be clear
Don't pay no mind to the demons
They fill you with fear
The trouble it might drag you down
If you get lost, you can always be found

Just know you’re not alone
Cause I’m going to make this place your home

Die Young

Growing up in the studio and behind the scenes at her mother's concerts Ke$ha always had a dream of becoming a "Rock Star."  In 2010, the electro-pop singer had her first hit single called Animal.  Previous to her release of Animal she was writing music for other artists as well as singing backup vocals on many tracks like Flo Rida's "Right Round."  With her latest album release titled Deconstructed comes another fan favorite Die Young.  She recently performed the hit single at the 2012 American Music Awards.  With her gypsy like spirit and no holds barred attitude it is no wonder that Ke$ha has achieved her dream of becoming a Rock Star.

I hear your heart beat to the beat of the drums
Oh what a shame that you came here with someone
So while you're here in my arms
Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young

We're gonna die young
We're gonna die young

Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young

[Beat break]

Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young

Young hearts, out our minds
Runnin like we outta time
Wild childs, lookin' good
Livin hard just like we should
Don't care whose watching when we tearing it up (You Know)
That magic that we got nobody can touch (For sure)

Looking for some trouble tonight
Take my hand, I'll show you the wild, side
Like it's the last night of our lives
We'll keep dancing till we die

I hear your heart beat to the beat of the drums
Oh what a shame that you came here with someone
So while you're here in my arms,
Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young

We're gonna die young
We're gonna die young

Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young

[Beat break]

Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young

Young hunks, taking shots
Stripping down to dirty socks
Music up, gettin' hot
Kiss me, give me all you've got
It's pretty obvious that you've got a crush (you know)
That magic in your pants, it's making me blush (for sure)

Looking for some trouble tonight
Take my hand i'll show you the wild side
Like it's the last night of our lives
We'll keep dancing till we die

I hear your heart beat to the beat of the drums
Oh what a shame that you came here with someone
So while you're here in my arms,
Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young

I hear your heart beat to the beat of the drums
Oh what a shame that you came here with someone
So while you're here in my arms
Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young

We're gonna die young
We're gonna die young

Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young

Love Generation

Bob Sinclar describes his music style as "peace, love and house-music" and that's exactly how it sounds.  As a French record producer and house DJ his song Love Generation is one of my favorites.  It's such a feel good song that promotes spreading love and peace to the whole world.  Even though his popularity is mostly in Europe he has had a few hits here in the States.

From Jamaica to the world
It's just love, it's just love, yeah

Why must our children play in the streets?
Broken hearts and faded dreams
Peace and love to everyone that you meet
Don't you worry, it could be so sweet

Just look to the rainbow, you will see
Sun will shine till eternity
I've got so much love in my heart
No one can tear it apart, yeah

Feel the love generation
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Feel the love generation
C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, yeah

Feel the love generation
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Feel the love generation
Ooh, yeah, yeah

Don't worry about a thing
It's gonna be alright
Don't worry about a thing
It's gonna be alright

Don't worry about a thing
It's gonna be alright
Gonna be, gonna, gonna, gonna be alright

Why must our children play in the streets?
Broken hearts and faded dreams
Peace and love to everyone that you meet
Don't you worry, it could be so sweet

Just look to the rainbow, you will see
Sun will shine till eternity
I've got so much love in my heart
No one can tear it apart, yeah

Nice & Slow

You could say my taste in music is all over the board.  I like hip-hop, R&B, country, indie rock, classic rock and even classical.  Usher is one of my favorite R&B singers from "back in the day."  Usher became famous after releasing his album My Way in the 90s.  Nice & Slow was a #1 hit on Billboard Hot 100 off of the album.  Originally from Dallas, Texas Usher grew up in Chattanooga, Tennessee where he joined the church choir at the age of nine before starting to sing professionally.  Usher is not only a singer but also an actor and a philanthropist.  He is the founder of the New Look program which helps to give children a new look on life through education and life experiences.   He continues to make music that is reflective of the times and evolves as a singer-songwriter with every album.

Give In To Me

From the motion picture Country Strong comes the song Give In To Me.  Actors Garret Hedlund and Leighton Meester sing this song so beautifully.  The film also stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Tim McGraw and is about a country singer who is battling alcohol addiction while trying to cope with her fame.  There are a few love stories that happen throughout the film and the song Give In To Me  captures the emotions of the characters with every lyric.

"Give In To Me"
(with Garrett Hedlund)

I'm gonna wear you down
I'm gonna make you see
I'm gonna get to you
You're gonna give in to me

I'm gonna start a fire
You're gonna feel the heat
I'm gonna burn for you
You're gonna melt for me

Come on, come on
Into my arms
Come on, come on
Give in to me

You're gonna take my hand
Whisper the sweetest words
And if you're ever sad
I'll make you laugh
I'll chase the hurt

My heart is set on you
I don't want no one else
And if you don't want me
I guess I'll be all by myself

Come on, come on
Into my arms
Come on, come on (come on)
Give in to me

I'll use my eyes to draw you in
Until I'm under your skin
I'll use my lips, I'll use my arms
Come on, come on, come on
Give in to me

Give in to me [x2]

Go Hard

I laugh and sing every time I hear this song.  Kreayshawn is cray-cray!!  Go Hard from her newest album titled Something Bout Kreay is fun and quirky.  It's a mesh of pin-up, 80s and a little rapper chick.  The video is silly with it's cartoon-like graphics which makes it all the more fun.  Kreayshawn, real name Natassia Gail Zolot, is from Oakland, California and has been "slinging" beats since she was 10 years old and released her first debut single Gucci Gucci in 2011.  She has said that her influences musically are the Spice Girls and Missy Elliott.

Hey bitch, what's up?
You know I'd really like to do that
But I don't have any fucking money
Like I don't have nay fucking money!

Chorus:
Hey bitch, do you really really wanna go hard?
Go in the crib, steal your step father's credit card
And take the car and do circles in the parking lot
Scream at the top of my lungs like la la la
La la la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la la la
We on the la la la la la
We on the la la la la la

Bitch, I see you working at the mall
..ever twenty one, selling...
You wanna quit your job? You need a place to go?
Girl, run your own show, but don't be on some hoe shit
Bounce with something cute on, I kiss into a fog zone
I'll be really off and searching for some water though
What it do? Let it go, and go hard!
Let me see you doing, go hard, like real hard!

Do it like, do it like, let me see you go hard, go hard!
Girl, you need that new, bottles on chew
I got gold chain flu, little lady on my side, show me how you ride out!
Be a good one, and I'll take you to my hideout!
Pretty little bitch, dripping like some water though
I'll be on that stroll, and coming for that low low
What I did? let he go! She's bad now
She went real hard until she threw her back out!

Silly girl, take your jacket off
Get off the floor, go hard!
Go hard, go hard, go hard, go hard, go hard!
Do it like, do it like, do it like!
Let me see you go hard, go hard, go hard, go hard!

Do it like, do it like, do it like!
Let me see you go hard, go hard, go hard, go hard!
Go hard, go hard, go hard, go hard!
Do it like, do it like, do it like!
Let me see you go hard, go hard, go hard, go hard!
Go hard, go hard, go hard, go hard!
